Scientists found a curious way to count bugs
#1
Technically, they've had all sorts of curious ways to count bugs. But this article from Market Watch (via MSN) explains The eye-opening results scientists found when they studied bug splats on cars.

Okay, I won't keep you in suspense.

There are fewer bugs dying on the windshields of vehicles than there were many years ago. The study was conducted over several years and covered many different types of vehicles. They ruled out changes in aerodynamic properties of vehicle designs. In fact, modern vehicles kill more bugs than older "vintage" vehicles.

Either the bugs are avoiding our highways or there are considerably fewer bugs than there used to be.

The study also looked at how many bugs were killed by license plates. Though fewer bugs die on license plates, their numbers have declined by 50% (versus an 80% decline on windshields).
