Hagrid actor Robiie Coltrane has died

He was 72 years old and had been ill recently. Best known to science fiction and fantasy fans as the half-giant Hagrid in the Harry Potter films, his acting credits go back to 1979.

Two non-SF movies I remember seeing him in were Let It Ride, starring Richard Dreyfus, and Ocean's Twelve, although a quick scan of his IMDB credits shows I've seen him in other productions.

He was a great actor and will always be beloved by Harry Potter fans, for sure.

I remember him best for his performance in a low budget Canadian film from 1990 called Perfectly Normal. Most of the actors were Canadian, so I've always been a bit surprised that Coltrane was cast in the movie. He was perfect for the role, though, and added a lot to the charm that the movie had.
