In 8th grade English, we were told that the girls should read a "boy's" book and the boys read a "girl's" book, and write book reports. Fascinated by the Robin Jacques cover, I chose _The Moon Of Three Rings_. All comments on the pervasive and pernicious sexism that's still all too with us aside, even 45 years later, I can still feel the stone of the dungeon as Krip was thrown down into it. It was one of the first times I felt a description in a book so viscerally.
Does anyone else have a vivid Andre Norton moment to share?

I'm not sure if it counts as a moment, but I remember being in a used bookstore about 40 years ago looking at the Andre Norton Ace paperbacks with their exotic covers. I was an undergrad and had just about no spending money, but I was enthralled and knew I had to buy and read those books. The Judgement on Janus cover with the green bald head poking out of the leaves was especially enticing. Obviously, I was not disappointed with the writing behind those covers.

For lack of anything better to do, when I was about 14, I spent time in an old used book store. I think I first went in there while my mother was shopping at a nearby thrift store.
I remember browsing the bookcases and finding a long aisle filled with science fiction and fantasy books.
The first book that held my attention was Year of the Unicorn. I may have paid about 25 cents for it. Took it home, read it in a weekend, and went back as soon as I could to find more books by Andre. Spent a lot of free time that summer in that bookstore.
