The U.S. government confirmed some time ago that Unidentified Aerial Phenomena were real. 60 Minutes talked to some of the people involved with the confirmed sightings.

Science Fiction writer David Brin suggests (based on his own classified work) that these things may be the uber-technological equivalents of "cat lasers" in a recent blog post.

I doubt he knows exactly what they are, but he is highly skeptical that they are alien technology.
