Where's my stuff?
#1
Due to medical reasons I've been off line for the past 2 months. I come back here and find that over 2 years of my post are gone.

WHY DID YOU DELETE MY POST?

They appear in the main listing but when you click on them they say "The specified thread does not exist."

I can still see mine dating back to 2003, so my guess is something to do with preferences, caches etc. Although...if you are going to specifically bookmarked or linked threads, I think the URLs to those changed when the ffg forums moved a few years ago. I'm pretty sure no one has deleted anything though. Smile

Jay,
Can you give me the title of a Thread? It might be visible to me as the moderator.

Not fast, as I don't plan to log on again until tomorrow.

In fact - just email me at home & I'll work on it. Could have been archived.
Example: I have a link to
Never before seen Interview and other stuff 3/10/13
Omnibus Editions and Other Stuff 11/14/11
New Stuff at Web-site. 6/27/10
as "related threads"

Every Post back to February 25, 2019

I changed my password yesterday. If you didn't do it then my account was hacked for I sure didn't do it.

Nope - They were there 2 months ago. The prior post from December 2018 back to 2004 are there. When I'm logged in they appear in the front list, but when you click on it you get that message. When I look at the main list as a guest they are not listed at all. Which means each post was deleted. Something must have been hacked (if it wasn't an admin. person) and I need to know what was done so I can block it. (maybe)

I will look into it. It's possible the database was corrupted.

So far as I can see, the posts are still in the database. These are "soft deletes". Each one can be restored individually. I'll look to see if there is a bulk restore.

But first I need to determine if there is a table crash or some other problem with the database.

I don't believe it's a database problem. I will send you an email.

Just so everyone is aware of the status of this situation, I have discussed what I found with Jay via email. We'll be undeleting the posts. This was NOT the result of a moderator's action against Jay.

It may take a while to find them all but I'll review the recent deletions tonight and get through as many as I can.

I have been hacked again, They also tried very hard multiple times to hack the andre-norton-books.com website. I can not for the life of me figure out what is so special about getting into the website, but it is under attack all the time. You know -- I am really beginning to hate people in general.

Here's a layman's question: if Jay was hacked by a real person (ie not a porn/spam bot) could they have gone back to try to delete his posts manually?

I don't know. I seldom go back even a month to look at old posts.

Yes. I believe so.

Our forum was not hacked.

No moderator did this.

I have discussed the details of what I found in the Moderators Log with Jay. Because it involves private information, I will not share details of what I found.

Jay is free to share whatever he pleases, although I don't think that would be wise.

Naw, that answers my question, so I'm good.  Smile

Nothing was stolen and info is secure. They just got mischievous and deleted things at a couple places. That's what happened the last time they got into the website. (about 4 years ago) For some unknown reason somebody really wants into my website. They try almost daily - wish I knew why!

"Every cloud has a silver lining."

So this problem had me going back and resetting my password, for the first time in many, many years.... Dixie gave me the password when I became a moderator. It was 5 letter long. Passwords are now required to be 12 characters long, and should be complex.

The reasons that, once a password is know, that someone goes in and tries to delete stuff are. 1) To see how much access the id/password gives the hacker. because 2) If they can take over an existing site, they can use it for whatever, without paying for it. Or at least that's the theory.

My sister just had the password to her email hacked. She had to close that account out (and possibly couldn't if it was a free email). All her contacts had to change her ID, and ignore anything from the old email and MOST IMPORTANT, she had to track down every account that she had on the web, and change the ID, as most of them used her email.

Well that is enough of the off topic stuff. Everyone who has a password shorter than 12 characters, with a mix of numbers,, letters, etc, should go in and change their password. The hackers are everywhere, and are bored.

Yea - My password was only 6 letters and was tied to Norton stuff. From way back in 2004 when I joined, when I knew hardly nothing about computers. I do believe you would need one of those password guessers (as seen on TV) to figure it out now. If you keep a list of your passwords keep it on something that never sees the web.

I seldom go back either - I was looking for info I posted about "Chole and Nackie" - Once I saw it had been deleted I started looking at others.
