Now I have two Norton books to read.

I suppose this was inevitable, as YANKEE PRIVATEER is related... via the Lyon family.

The pile of books to read was higher than I thought. So I have just finished
STAND & DELIVER by Andre Norton

I like this book. I enjoy the mix of cultures and the adventure of the thing. Murray Lyon has just returned home to Baltimore after 5 years being first a captive, and then an adoptive son of Creek Warriors. So he has just been shaken out of his life in the woods, and is in Baltimore during an embargo (the year is around 1806). He is then immediately pulled further out of his comfort zone into the world of High Society England.

He doesn't quite fit in, but he adopts enough of the modes to pass. But returning from a cock fight, his party is separated. He comes around a bend, to find the carriage of his friends being held up, and sends a blade to stop the highwayman from firing. This faux-pas, has him heading to one of his minor estates in Cornwall, where he has more adventures.

There wasn't anything in the history to cause me to stop reading. I found the differences between classes smoothed over nicely. I didn't 'find' anything wrong, possibly because the details aren't truly details, but more "stocks" and "belcher ties" than cravats tied in the 'mathematical'. Perhaps Andre Norton got he history from the same Historical romance novels that I used to read.

The best paragraph is where Murray is angrily berating his companions, using all of the curses in all of two continents, he has lived in. "son of a mud turtle" in the Creek language added to the litany. One of the listeners notes that he hasn't repeated himself.
