It's relevant in the sense that systemic racism has been around for a long time. One would hope it can't happen again today, but certainly Donald Trump has willingly attempted to destroy people's reputations by lying about them. He is cruel and lacks empathy.
I think many notable conservative Americans who are or have been active in government see that and even though they have been slow to stand up for innocent people they occasionally push back against this kind of behavior.
