Disney parks closures

Considering that a lot of those recent measles outbreaks spread out from a Disney park, closing them during this epidemic is just good sense. On top of that, most people aren't traveling right now, so they wouldn't have many customers even if they were pig-headed and stayed open. Things are probably going to get a lot worse before they get better. In a little time, closures like these are going to seem like they were inevitable.

I think Disney's theme park experience may have peaked. This viral outbreak may only be the first of many. Hopefully it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience but things are so much different from the 1918 influenza epidemic.

The world economy is taking a beating unlike anything we've ever seen before. India just initiated a nationwide lockdown for 1.3 billion people. Hong Kong had to reinstate their emergency protocols when the virus began spreading again. It remains to be seen if the rest of China can successfully come out of lockdown next month as they hope.

Meanwhile, the U.S. is much earlier into the infection curve than other nations and we're not dealing with the threat as we should be. I fear we'll have to experience many thousands of deaths before people realize that no one is immune to this disease. It will kill regardless of age or health. And it will cause other people to die because their conditions can't be treated by the overwhelmed hospitals.

So the real question is, how will things stand in 12-18 months when we finally have a vaccine that can be distributed?

At that point we'll see which industries can recover and which industries will have faded into oblivion or become diminished.

And meanwhile people will do what they must to survive. Our economy will change. But will people have as much discretionary income as they had before - and 70% of American families were living paycheck-to-paycheck before this viral crisis began.
