"Young Galadriel" cast for new Amazon series

When is the series set, again?  https://deadline.com/2019/12/the-lord-of...202812297/

I can only hope that this is Variety's interpretation of the announcement, not the studio's.

"Young" Galadriel? Will there be an "Old" Galadriel? Those folks don't really show their age much, do they?

The show will be set in the Second Age of Middle-earth.

So "young Galadriel" is perfectly plausible.

How much has Galadriel aged since Second Age?
Was Galadriel young when Feanor asked for what she ended up giving to Gimli instead? Feanor DID see her young, for he was the elder brother of her father. And young elves do age visibly for the obvious reason that they cannot be born as big as their mothers.
If you cast young Galadriel, do you have to cast young Maedhros as well?
Between the cousins... yes, of the fathers Feanor was the elder. But he had 7 sons. Fingolfin had 3 sons (Fingon, Turgon, Argon) and 1 daughter (Aredhel). Finarfin 3 sons (Finrod, Angrod, Aegnor) and 1 daughter (Galadriel). That leaves Findis and Irime. Did either of them marry and have children in Aman? And of the 15 attested cousins, grandchildren of Finwe, what were their relative ages?

According to one of his notes - and I forget where this was published, but possibly in Morgoth's Ring - Tolkien decided that the Elven Rings of Power slowed time for them to about 10%. In other words, for every 10 years that passed the Elves aged about 1 year.

So in the 4800 or so years since the Rings had been made, Galadriel would have aged 480 years. In Third Age year 3018 Galadriel should have seemed quite young for an elf of her years - to anyone who knew what an elf that old should look like.

Gally supposedly was born sometime during the Ages of the Trees, and was the youngest of Finarfin's children. She was a fully grown mature nis by the time the crisis of the Slaying of the Trees and the Exile occurred. Arguably she was young enough to have ambitions to found and rule kingdoms, and enthusiasm for such adventures as going to Middle-Earth. I can't imagine her seeming truly 'young' in anything like Mannish terms by the early Second Age (Eregion was founded in SA 750).

Well, technically, in the book she seemed like a young lady to the mortals who saw her. Cate Blanchett is a lovely lady but she was a bit old for the role.

So was Feanor.
How old was Galadriel when Feanor asked for her hair, and then made Silmarils instead?
