Star Trek: The Motion Picture in cinemas Sept 15 & 18, 2019

Fathom events is showing Star Trek: The Motion Picture in cinemas on the 15th and 18th this month, in celebration of the film's 40th anniversary.

They're showing the original theatrical cut, not the later director's cut.  It's nice that they're doing this, TMP seldom gets any love from fans, but it's got a lot going for it. I'm looking forward to seeing this one on the big screen!

Check out the Fathom Events website for details and see if it's playing near you.[/url]

I should have gone to the Sunday showing, as I accidentally broke the rear window in my car today, so I'm thinking I won't make it to the showing tomorrow evening....

Ah, well. I guess I can pop the DVD in at home and sit real close to the tv to simulate the big screen.

Curious as to how it holds up. I never liked it, but kept quiet at the time because I wanted Trek to be as big a franchise as Star Wars. (Not that I could influence that, but you know what I mean....)

I did not make it, but I agree it's not the best of the Star Trek movies. Still, the redesigned Enterprise, redesigned Klingons, the Jerry Goldsmith score--the movie does lay the groundwork for much of what followed.

On the other hand, I'd say it's very Gene Roddenberry, and very 1970s. Of all the Star Trek movies, I think most would agree it's aged the worst. It feels like a product of its time.
