This controversial interview probably will lead to a movie about his life. Hoping g Chris Pratt is cast as John Wayne or Brad Pitt?

Actually surprised no one has tried to do a film about him, at least for tv, so far. But you think they'd get someone who looks a little more like him. and could convincingly play
him in his youth too. Of the current crop of actors, Chris Hemsworth is the closest in body type.

When this controversy broke out I was surprised to read some of the accusations leveled at Wayne. When he died in the 70s he was remembered for his patrtiotism and for how he promoted minorities in film-making. He didn't avoid joining the military during WWII. He tried to join several times, but today he is being called a "draft dodger" by people who don't even know what that means. He wasn't perfect but he was admired by millions of people for championing the best ideas that America could stand for: protecting the weak, helping your neighbor, standing up to intimidation, and more.
And his anti-Communist rhetoric earned him the distinction of being targeted for assassination by Joseph Stalin. Nikita Kruschev allegedly apologized to Wayne for that order when they met, assuring him it was one of the first orders he rescinded when he succeeded Stalin as leader of the Soviet Union. Stalin actually sent agents to kill Wayne and they were arrested (they also asked for asylum - one can only imagine what kind of fate would have awaited them at home).

Imagine being so pathetic that you have to try to purge the memory of a guy born a hundred years ago, just because he said something 50 years ago that is considered inflammatory now.

Yep, that's happening everywhere now. Thank goodness modern technology ensures that nothing ever goes away now, so even if somebody's history is whitewashed, the info is still there for future - and hopefully more
enlightened - generations to rediscover.

I tend to think it makes it easier. If we move away from physical media, all it takes is for a few of these lunatic 'progressives' to get into places of power at your big media streaming places, and *poof*. There goes John Wayne.

Yep, but a hundred years from now, people will "discover" VHS tapes and dvd's and other forgotten technology, and realize that there was this insanely popular figure named John Wayne.

In that scenario, I'd rather be the guy digging an El Dorado DVD out of some landfill in 100 years than the guy that has to live in the "utopia" these moral busybodies are so intent on creating!

Clearly, someone needs to give them all a dose of Johnny Diamond's hangover cure. :jester:
