I watched "The Smurfs" through On Demand on cable. It was cute but not really interesting enough for me to want to see the sequel in theaters.

I don't think it was marketed very well. Also, despite the popularity of the TV show and the movies here in the United States, Smurfs are a Belgian comic tradition. Maybe it's just not being positioned as the kind of franchise that American audiences want to connect with.
