Meh. The article talks more about how the industry is outsourcing and competing at this point from its once “fresh face” period, where there was nothing else like it in the North American industry. Comparing the (more) intricate concepts of “Robotech” to contemporary “He-Man”, and the obviously better animation, especially fight-sequences, it’s clear to see why anime really took off in the beginning and had a very good run. Because of that initial success, anime became glutted with stories that took advantage of the design components but lacked in the story-telling areas. Just as with any other entertainment media, there are far more mediocre to poor productions than there are excellent and re-watchable productions.

Anime, thus, is a victim of its own success.

But demise? Trouble? Not really. We may see a decline in the number of shows that are being released, but any good show, from a story-telling perspective, will out. As a style of animation, I can’t really see anime going away any time soon.

Given that the source of his information is an L.A. Times article, it seems hardly appropriate to assume the sky is falling.

Outsourcing is nothing new in the animation business, American firms have outsourced practically everything for the past 3 decades.

Frankly, a decline in anime isn't a bad thing. For every good series, it seems like there's ten stupid ones. Of course, that's just my opinion.
