SF-Fandom experiment with videos in posts
#1
We have implemented custom BB Codes to allow people to embed videos in their posts from YouTube.

This is a trial run. If we find that people are embedding illegal videos, adult videos, etc. we will disable the feature.

Please be mindful that many people from different cultures, faiths, and ages visit these forums. Videos that deal with adult or mature themes should not be embedded in our discussions.

We reserve the right to moderate any video for any reason. If you embed a video and a moderator disables the link, please do not restore it. Restoring a moderated video link will be regarded as a violation of SF-Fandom policy.

There are two codes to use:

1) youtube and /youtube

2) cyoutube and /cyoutube

With the first code you just embed the YouTube video parameter (it's the funny looking string of characters at the end of the video page URL). It would look something like this: VzYyFrduO1M

Here is what it would look like. Example taken from the official Star Trek Trailer video at YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2n8qHdG1GLI

[ youtube ]2n8qHdG1GLI [ /youtube ]

If you want to embed a custom title, you would do this:

[ cyoutube = 2n8qHdG1GLI ] Official trailer for Star Trek movie [ /cyoutube ]

Official trailer for Star Trek movie From YouTube

Please understand that our moderation team is somewhat ambivalent about the inclusion of videos in our forum discussions. I ask that everyone keep the videos to about a PG-13 level and please don't embed any videos you're certain are violating someone's intellectual property rights.

Music videos are, for the time being, off limits in the Country Western Music forum unless a moderator specifically agrees to allow a video to be embedded. This restriction is due to the highly controversial enforcement practices of the RIAA against copyright infringement.

As much as possible, we will tolerate trailers for upcoming movies because the studios now seem to encourage fan-based marketing (aka viral marketing). However, we will respect takedown requests.

Some YouTube videos cannot be embedded on third-party sites. Make sure you check the EMBED box for permission to use (it will say that the uploaded has disabled that feature).
