She's lucky they declared her dead.

After an hour of CPR, her brain would have been so oxygen starved, that saving her would have created a survivor that would have been jealous of Terri Schiavo, except for her inability to feel jealousy. Or anything else.

After ten minutes of cardiac arrest without defibrillation, don't bother. You'll only prolong the family's misery.

So it took an hour for emergency personnel to reach her?

It's pretty difficult to administer CPR anyway for that length of time, especially if you aren't trading off with others. The latest guidelines say 30 compressions in a minute to two breaths, that's pretty tiring, although perhaps a bodyguard can manage it for an hour. The guidelines also say to call 911 before starting CPR, surely a professional bodyguard would know this. So it appears that it took an hour to get help.

I've never seen CPR go on that long.

I've done about 10-15 minutes, including on scene, plus the ride and a bit in the ER, until the Doc said "15 minutes, no response to Epi? Time of death...."

Picture perfect CPR can preserve brain function for 6-10 minutes of cardiac arrest. After that you're just hoping to preserve organs for the donation team. Most people don't do picture perfect CPR, and one person CPR is almost impossible to do perfectly, as you lose so much effect while switching from compressions to resps.

I assume the time is wrong, or that she was far from a city with an ambulance service, or that the 911 call didn't go out right away.

I find it very hard to believe it took so long for help to get to her in a big city,Im an x EMT,also after an hour of CPR,by a big man,if he did it right, He most likely broke most of her ribs, and blew out her lungs:help:

I wonder about her daughter, who gets custody?
Don't do nothing.

My understanding is that custody is still up for grabs. Smith had claimed the baby was her . . . going from memory here . . . previous attorney Howard Stern (no relation). Another ex claimed the child was his. There was a paternity test involved, but I understand that the results are being kept private for the time-being.

I assume that Smith's attorneys will now continue her suit for the millions from her deceased husband on behalf of the daughter. It might even become easier to for a judge and jury to rule in that favor given the sympathy generated for the now motherless little girl. Confusedad:

I feel bad for her daughter. She lost a brother she never got to know and only had a mother for 5 months and will never know her other than what she will no doubt read about years later about her mother.

Maybe Anna's mother (or one of her brothers and sisters) will get custody but I take it that the father, Birkhead or Stern, will be the sole guardian pending paternity test results.

If they're smart they'll attempt a settlement of some type for a fraction of what Smith was going for. All the kid really needs is, what, a few million? I can't even recall what the sum was that Smith was supposed to inherit after the old man died. If I recall correctly it was an astronomical amount.

Like RR said, I'm not sure what to make of it all. I was shocked when I saw the headlines, that's for sure.

Upwards of $500 million, although another court reduced it to $88 million (I don't know why that figure sticks in my head). In either case, yes, I agree. A trust fund settlement would be the best solution. Give up a couple ten million and call it a done day.

Which explains all those guys coming out of the woodwork claiming, rather than denying, paternity!

1. Your kid has an $88M+ trust fund, & you would be the trustee. That's a lotta beer money.
2, You can say you got Anna Nicole in the sack...
3. ...but you don't have to put up with her now.
That's cruel, I know, but that woman was IMO so out of control she made Paris Hilton look demure & classy. Even $88mil+ only goes so far to alleviate that.
Plus she was about to hit the four oh. I'm not in any way dissing mature ladies, mind you, but her entire claim to celebrity and desirability was based on perceived if not actual youthful pulchritude & trailer-trashy adolescent attitude. When you start the approach to the half-century mark, you'd best have something else going for you by then, &, other than hitting the gold-digger jackpot, I doubt she did or ever would.:worry:

All funny, and very true.

This I don't buy. On my ambulance, I've transported a transvestite prostitute after s/he got cut with a broken bottle fighting with a John over the quality of the herion used as payment for the act s/he performed, and even that didn't make Paris Hilton look classy.

Classier women than Paris get chased shirtless through trailer parks on COPS every week.

Ahem . . . exactly where are these trailer parks of which you speak? For . . . research purposes!

Ask your wife...and, erm, report back, hmm? :wicked:

Seriously, I do feel kinda bad about Anna Nicole. I think that with all her over the top behaviour and flamboyant appearance she was trying to make up for a part of her that was missing, probably from an unhappy childhood or something to that effect.

I hope that the baby girl lands in the hands of competent and loving people, at least.
